Profile
Tetsuki is Associate Professor of Political Science, Graduate School of Law, Nagoya University (Japan). He is currently a visiting fellow in the Political Science Program, Research School of Social Sciences, ANU (from September 2009 to August 2010). He obtained LL. D. at Nagoya University. His thesis was entitled “The Transformation of State-Society Relationship: The Political Theory of Claus Offe” (in Japanese) and now published as the book, State, Politics and Civil Society: The Political Theory of Claus Offe, Tokyo: Aoki Shoten, 2002 (in Japanese).
Working between normative political theory and empirical approach in political science, he has published extensively (in Japanese) in deliberative democracy, welfare state and basic income, and feminist political theory.
His recent interest in deliberative democracy is threefold. First is the relationship between deliberative democracy and social welfare, particularly in the context of basic income. Second is how to defend the priority of deliberative democracy as a coordinating and conflict resolution mechanism in contemporary reflexive and/or liquid societies. Tamura's third interest in the field is specific to theorizing the relationship between reason and emotion in deliberative democracy.
