Ricardo Mendonça is a Ph.D student in the Social Communication Program of Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG, Brazil). His thesis examines struggles for recognition in different discursive arenas. He specifically focuses on the role social movements play in terms of discursive representation within a deliberative system. His research interests include democratic theory, public deliberation, struggles for recognition and theory of communication. He will be at the ANU Political Science Program from August 2007 until June 2008.
